The Hands Free Company Provides Economical, Customized Mounting Solution for Charging Handheld in Fleet of 12,000 Trucks
The Hands Free Company was approached with this question from one of the largest shipping and freight companies in the world and began working on a customized solution. Some of the additional challenges to the design of vehicle mount were that it needed to be adaptable so that regardless of where in the cab it was mounted, the handheld, when cradled, would face the driver for messaging purposes and that the solution would need to be durable enough for the repetitious removal and replacement of the handheld.
The solution: Brodit CN3 charging cradle secured onto a custom-designed mount with a 90° swiveling bracket. Additional strengthening features include a support gusset welded to the angled arm and a Molex pin connector guard to avoid damage to the power connections. Included in each individual kit for the customer was all necessary hardware to perform the installations into their fleet as well as the quick-connect plugs attached to the power and ground wires which cut installation time in half.
All 12,000 custom solutions were delivered to the customer in less than 6 months at a price ¼ that of the OEM solution. The customer was so satisfied with the final solution that they ordered additional bracket solutions for the entire fleet in their other freight division.
